How to Find Herriman Residents
A resident search works best when each source answers its own question. The Salt Lake County Assessor supplies a parcel, situs address, owner, or valuation clue. The Recorder adds transfers and legal descriptions. Vote.Utah.gov provides permitted election fields, while Utah Courts Xchange can show a public party and case history. Historical questions turn to Marriott Library, County Archives, census, newspapers, cemetery records, or Herriman School registers.
Start with a normalized name or complete address. Keep mailing and physical addresses separate, and do not treat an owner as every person in a household. A no-result can reflect spelling, an old place name, a withheld record, a private case, or an undigitized collection. Preserve the URL, date, record number, page or image, custodian, and confidence.
- Run the name or address through the Salt Lake County Assessor and save the parcel ID, owner, situs address, and tax-year snapshot.
- Open the parcel in the county viewer or Herriman GIS to check the street, boundary, subdivision, and nearby parcel context.
- Use the Recorder's property search for recorded documents, grantors, grantees, legal descriptions, and transfer dates.
- Check the public voter route or a court search only for the fields and purpose the relevant custodian allows.
- For an older address, pair directory, census, newspaper, cemetery, permit, school, and archive evidence.
Herriman Resident Records Offices
The resident trail is split between Herriman, Salt Lake County, and Utah offices. The County Recorder and Assessor are at 2001 South State Street in Salt Lake City. Their listed phones are 385-468-8145 and 385-468-8000; Elections is 385-468-7400 and Archives is 385-468-0820 by appointment. Herriman City Recorder lists 801-446-5323.
Use the office that created the record. The Assessor handles parcels and values, the Recorder deeds and plats, and Elections voter records. The County Clerk handles full marriage licenses. Vital Records handles eligible birth and death certificates and limited abstracts. City minutes, GRAMA, court, cemetery, and police records remain separate routes.

The Herriman City Recorder records page connects local minutes, elections, city records, GRAMA, State Archives, and Salt Lake County Library Services. That local custodian link helps when a city file is not already online.
The city layer adds meeting and legislative context to the county parcel trail. It can identify an applicant, landowner, or public representative without becoming a complete household directory.
Herriman Parcel Search Fields
The current Salt Lake County Assessor search accepts an owner, address, or parcel number. The owner format is “Last Name, First Name.” The legacy search asks for at least three letters and can use an owner, frontage number, direction, street name or number, street type or direction, or a partial parcel prefix. The modern address field is an autocomplete control, so select the official property address instead of leaving a typed near-match in place.
| Search field | What the Herriman search accepts |
|---|---|
| Owner | Last name, first name; legacy search uses a three-letter minimum |
| Address | Official situs or property address selected from autocomplete |
| Parcel Number | 00-00-000-000-0000 format; the first seven digits can retrieve a block |
| Legacy street fields | Frontage number, direction, street name or number, and type or direction |
| Result controls | Search, Reset, classic view, printable view, and sortable results |
Parcel detail may show owner, situs, acreage, tax class, property type, tax district, exemptions, land and building value, tax year, value history, lot use, zone, neighborhood, coordinates, year built, square footage, units, and structure details. A sampled Herriman detail was a 2026 snapshot dated May 22, 2026, fixed until next tax year. It is evidence, not a live count.
- Roll
- A record set kept for a defined purpose, such as property assessment or voter registration.
- Index
- A finding aid that points to a record, party, parcel, date, book, page, or document image.
- Parcel
- A county property unit tied to an ID, legal description, assessment, and mapped land.
- Criss-cross directory
- An address-organized directory that can lead from a street number to a historic entry.
When a Herriman Owner Is Not Occupant
Owner data answers who is recorded for a parcel. It does not certify who sleeps there or list every household member. A mailing address that differs from the situs can be an off-site owner, a trust, a business, an estate, or another service address. An owner-occupied indicator is a clue, not proof. Treat a parcel match as one fixed identifier that needs a second independent check.
The distinction matters in a fast-growing city. A public agency, trust, or business can be the indexed owner, and a street search can miss an address whose older legal description or street alias has not been matched. For family research, compare the parcel and legal description with a dated directory, census household, obituary, court party address, or other lawful record. Stop when the next field is protected instead of trying to reconstruct it from fragments.
Practical check. Record whether each address is a situs address, mailing address, filed court address, or historical directory address. Those labels are not interchangeable.
Current Herriman Resident Directories
No single current roll lists every Herriman resident. These directory-like sources overlap only in part, and the table shows what each can establish.
| Source | Who or what appears | Keeper | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Property and tax roll | Recorded owner, situs, mailing clue, values, exemptions | Salt Lake County Assessor | Free online search and counter |
| Voter record | Name, address, age range, party, status, districts, vote history | Salt Lake County Elections and Utah | Self-status or lawful data request |
| Recorder index | Grantors, grantees, liens, plats, legal descriptions | Salt Lake County Recorder | Free list, paid data and images |
| City record trail | Minutes, legislative files, GRAMA-held records, local actions | Herriman City Recorder | Online links or written request |
| Historical collections | Past residents, streets, households, schools, and events | Marriott Library, Archives, State Archives | Online, appointment, microfilm, or form |
A resident lookup usually needs two sources. The Assessor can anchor a name to a parcel, while an election or court record may add a dated address field. A city record can identify an applicant or landowner without becoming a resident list. The full address chain belongs in the Herriman street address directory, while historical volumes are treated in the Herriman city directory collections.
Herriman Voter Record Boundaries
Vote.Utah.gov serves two different needs. An individual can register, update information, check status, find polling information, or read the privacy route. A public voter-data request is a separate product. The public fields can include legal name, voter ID in a bulk file, age range, residential and mailing address, county, precinct, districts, party or unaffiliated status, active or inactive status, last update date, and vote history.
Full birth date, driver or state ID, Social Security number, phone, email, signature, and At-Risk identities are withheld. The public file is not a household roster. Vote history reports participation or method, not candidate choice. A person may be inactive without leaving Herriman, and a removed record does not prove where the person went. County-specific lists come from Salt Lake County Elections, not an assumed statewide extract.
For a street question, use election data only through the permitted route. A person checking their own record should use self-status. Safety concerns belong with voter withholding and Utah Safe at Home, not attempts to infer a protected address.
Herriman Xchange Name Variants
Utah Courts Xchange is the public summary search for Utah district and justice courts. It can be useful when a person’s name appears in a public case, but a case location is not proof of residence. Search scope, court, filing date, party role, and address field must be read together.
The interface accepts jurisdiction, search type, case number, last name or company, first name, case type, scope, birth date, citation number, and date range. An asterisk can return name variations. Results can show court, case type, filing date, party name, case history, and documents. Inspected pricing was $10, $0.20 per search, and $1 per document. Free terminals are available at courthouses and the State Law Library.
Search exact spelling, initials, maiden or married names, suffixes, and punctuation changes. Save the case number, filing date, court, party role, and outcome. Sealed, private, juvenile, adoption, and expunged material may be absent. Herriman Justice Court handles traffic, small claims, and criminal or ordinance matters; Third District Court handles broader filings.
See the Utah Courts Xchange search help for the inspected field layout.
A docket is a court trail, not a current-address directory. Narrow results before buying a document, and do not treat no-result as proof of no record.
Herriman Recorder Document Trail
The Salt Lake County Recorder adds the legal and transfer layer that a property roll cannot provide. Its free Public Search requires terms agreement and an address or parcel selected from autocomplete. Data Services adds paid access to recorded documents, legal descriptions, plats, chain tools, and images, usually available the next working day.
Indexes can include grantor and grantee names, instrument kind, recording and deed dates, entry number, book and page, parcel, address, legal description, and consideration when indexed. A grantor transfers an interest; a grantee receives it. Search both roles when tracing backward. The free list is not a certified title search, and public data may be at least 24 hours old.
Property Watch uses a selected physical property address and can alert to parcel number, entry number, document type, and recorded date. It may miss instruments not attached to a property and does not decide clear title.
The Salt Lake County Recorder Public Search shows why the exact address selection matters.
Keep the instrument number and legal description with the name. A street label can change, but a parcel description and recording reference make the trail easier to test.
Free and Paid Herriman Searches
Access changes by record set. Assessor and county GIS maps are free. The Recorder has a free quick list and paid Data Services. Xchange web use is billable, while courthouse and State Law Library terminals are free. Archives staff research is $25 per hour after 15 free minutes, whether or not the item is found.
| Route | Best use | Cost or access note |
|---|---|---|
| Assessor and GIS | Parcel, owner, address, value, map context | Free online tools |
| Recorder free list | Quick document and property search | Free, terms apply |
| Recorder Data Services | Images, plats, chain, expanded property data | $5 small package or data-unit packages |
| Xchange web | Public court summary and case history | Inspected guest pricing and $1 documents |
| County Archives | Historic cards, deeds, maps, newspapers, and other series | Appointment; staff and copy fees |
Choose the smallest route. A free index may point to an image without the full legal description. An archive catalog confirms custody and years, not a named entry. Save the access date as portals and fees change.
Finding a Deceased Herriman Resident
Death and family questions need a different sequence. Salt Lake County Vital Records serves Utah birth and death certificates through its public-health offices, subject to eligibility. The listed counters are Ellis Shipp in West Valley City, Salt Lake Public Health Center in Salt Lake City, and South Redwood Public Health Center in West Jordan. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The County Clerk holds full marriage licenses, while marriage and divorce abstracts for 1978 through 2010 are a limited-information Vital Records product.
Utah Code §26B-8-125 sets public periods of 100 years for birth records, 50 years for death records, and 75 years for other vital records. Recent birth and death copies require an eligible relationship or legally recognized interest. A full marriage license comes from the County Clerk, and a full divorce decree comes from the district court. Archives lists historic births from 1890 through 1911 and deaths from 1847 through 1949. No early Herriman-only register was located.
When a certificate is restricted, use obituaries, estate notices, and cemetery records as historical clues. Herriman Cemetery has six sections, a pioneer-family plaque honoring nearly 100 families who arrived between 1851 and 1871, veteran markers, plot or transfer certificates, and a burial application. There is no public online name index, so the cemetery office and forms are the access route.
The Salt Lake County Vital Records access page shows the local office route and eligibility distinction.
Use a cemetery entry or obituary as a family clue, then verify the event through the custodian that holds the record. A memorial or copied index can contain an error.
Herriman Property Watch Address Tips
Property Watch is a useful alert layer for a parcel already in hand. The free service sends email or text alerts for recorded documents, with parcel number, entry number, document type, and date. Physical and tax mailing addresses can differ. The service may miss an unattached instrument and does not decide clear title, so preserve the Recorder reference.
Historical Herriman Resident Directories
The University of Utah Marriott Library Utah City Directories Collection is the strongest inspected online shelf, but it is not proof of a continuous Herriman run. Its place facets include Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County communities such as Sandy, Murray, Midvale, Holladay, Granger, Kearns, Magna, Union, Taylorsville, and Bountiful. Named Polk examples include 1896, 1897, 1906, 1909, 1915, 1926, 1929, 1935, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, a digitized 1919 page, and 1978 imagery.
Entries may show a name, spouse or widow notation, occupation, address, room, and b or r marks for residence context. OCR can split names and numbers, so the page image is the authority. Search historic labels as well as Herriman, including Butterfield, Fort Herriman, Riverton, rural county, and later subdivisions.
County Archives bridges the printed shelf with tax cards, permits, deeds, maps, newspapers, naturalization records, and early court material. Census schedules from 1850 through 1950 pair with nearby directory years, even when census geography uses a township, precinct, or county label.
The Salt Lake County Archives online records route identifies the historical bridge used for Herriman research.
Directory evidence is strongest when the address, year, household clue, and image page are saved together. A catalog listing establishes a collection, not a guaranteed entry for every Herriman resident.
Herriman School Registers
Utah State Archives Series 27951 is a rare Herriman-specific historical people source. The Herriman School attendance registers run from 1893 through 1972, with gaps in 1902–03, 1905–07, 1917–19, 1932–33, and 1967–68. A register may include student name, address, age, birth information, attendance, grade, performance, teacher comments, and parent or guardian information.
Records for people under 21 are private for 100 years under §63G-2-305. The catalog shows possible fields, not permission to copy protected information. For an older classmate or family line, pair an open register with a yearbook, newspaper, census, directory, or cemetery clue. Keep the school year and privacy age beside the name.
Herriman Records Request Fallback
When an online search is silent, use a precise request to the office that created the record. GRAMA is Utah's Government Records Access and Management Act under Title 63G, Chapter 2. Section 63G-2-201 generally makes public records available unless a private, controlled, protected, or restricted category applies. Section 63G-2-203 allows reasonable actual-cost fees. A request should identify an existing record, date range, subject, address, or series rather than ask an office to create a new answer.
Archives access notes describe a response as soon as reasonably possible and no later than 10 business days, subject to exceptions; the public-benefit expedited route is five business days. A denial may be appealed to the chief administrative officer under §63G-2-401. Herriman's City Recorder GRAMA form asks for requester contact information, record description, date or subject fields, response details, and whether the requester is the record subject. Exact current city fees were not exposed in the inspected form.
For a house history, request the narrow address and year range, then ask which series applies before booking County Archives. For an election, vital, court, or deed problem, send the correction or access question to Elections, Vital Records, the clerk, Recorder, or Assessor rather than asking a general office to build a profile. That route respects the record boundary and leaves a clear trail for later review.
Lawful personal use. Public records are for lawful research and civic or family purposes. Do not use an address or name trail to stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm anyone, and stop when a custodian withholds a protected field.
For a final check, retain the custodian, source URL, date viewed, exact field labels, record number, image or page, and the reason two records were matched. That small discipline keeps a Herriman residents directory search tied to evidence rather than assumption.
